I have been fascinated by the discovery this week of an "uncontacted" tribe of people in the amazon jungle. The pictures taken from a plane (to prove their existence) are so surreal. The tribes people staring up at the plane with their bodies painted with some tropical substance. What are they thinking? A noisy bird? A flying god? Do they know anything of the outside world? What effect will this "flyby" have on these people?
I am reminded of the passage in Romans where Paul writes that all humanity has the testimony of creation, and is therefore responsible to their creator. It is interesting to think about the fact that Jesus died so that these uncontacted tribes people could be forgiven of their moral failures. I do not know what moral failures they may have, but there is no doubt they have some. God knows each of them by name, yet they have never heard the name of His Son. I am grateful for the people who give up the luxury of the American lifestyle and risk their lives to reach people who live in such remotes places.
